Job Summary

Reporting to the VP, Engineering, the Director, Quality Engineering will lead the vision and strategy to define, socialize and implement the enterprise strategy and roadmap for quality engineering, test automation and performance testing. As a Director of Quality Engineering, you will play a key role within the Engineering organization as a thought leader and champion of best practices in the quality area. This role will also ensure that our technology platform meets growing demands fueled by our explosive growth and maintains a 99.99% availability 24/7 across our global multi-cloud architecture (AWS & Azure). You will be a hands-on leader who is technically adept and has the desire and capability to mentor every individual on the team

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement Test automation, Test Data Strategy, and Roadmaps for capabilities in partnership with Product Management and Engineering teams
  • Identify and implement the standardization of tools and frameworks for test automation and performance testing needs in support of the overall product delivery organization through the continuous research of market best practices
  • Define the metrics and criteria for all non-functional requirements including availability, reliability, quality, performance and security in collaboration with the appropriate internal stakeholders
  • Implement and manage a test plan, execution and reporting framework that is used by all product teams
  • Own the measurement and KPI metrics for testing strategies, best practices and effectiveness to FreightVerify leadership.

Identify and report on metrics that provide insight on quality of the solutions

  • Help transform manual QA group to a QE function with automation-first mindset
  • Be a technical leader for the QE team on Automation processes, tools, and technologies

Partner closely with DevOps/platform engineering team in integrating QA automation into the CI/CD pipelines

  • Attract and hire talented team members to build a world class QE team

Plays a key strategic role on CTO's Leadership Team in helping to set the company's direction and technology vision


  • Highly self-motivated and customer-focused individual with effective communication and facilitation skills
  • Deep experience and a strong quality and automation mindset to shape the practice and mentor quality engineers embedded in agile development teams
  • 10+ years in quality engineering or software engineering delivering mission critical, enterprise SaaS solutions
  • 5+ years in QA automation and SDET team leading
  • 5+ years of team management experience with globally distributed teams
  • 3+ years working with DevOps teams and integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines
  • Thorough knowledge of fundamental quality processes and best practices and experience in executing the practices
  • Experience in 24x7 SaaS environments and working with CI/CD and DevOps
  • Experience with TDD and/or BDD, white box and black box testing
  • Experience testing end to end solutions within an Agile development environment heavily leveraging automation
  • Strong influencing skills leading technology discussions at the senior leadership level
  • Ability to collaborate and manage relationships with other business units, external vendors and stakeholders
  • Strong work ethic, self-directed and resourceful
  • Strong multi tasking and prioritizing abilities while being nimble and adaptable
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
  • Projects the highest levels of integrity while winning through a consultative and embracing personality
  • Superior interpersonal communication and presentation skills as well as proven organizational skills
